In light of our admonition in Psalm 122:6 to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” here is a story worth noting today. “The Arab League foreign ministers on Thursday authorized the Palestinian Authority to enter direct negotiations with Israel and left it up to PA President Mahmoud Abbas to decide on the timing,” reports The Jerusalem Post. “Israel immediately welcomed the move taken at a special meeting in Cairo, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu issuing a statement in response saying he was ‘prepared to begin direct and honest discussions with the Palestinian Authority in the coming days.’ Netanyahu added that it would be possible through direct negotiations to soon reach an accord ‘between the two peoples.’…..” Given the history of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, we shouldn’t hold our breath that peace is around the corner. But as Netanyahu has been saying for more than a year, no progress can be made unless the Palestinian leaders are willing to come to the table and start talking.
