Dear friends of Israel –
- Isaiah 1:17 — “Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow”
- Prov. 31:9 — “Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”
As you will recall, Ami Ortiz is the son of an Israeli pastor and his wife who was nearly killed in March 2008 by a bomb sent to his home. Many of you have prayed for him and the Lord has heard your prayers. Ami is recovering miraculously, is playing basketball, and is enjoying life with his family and friends.
The good news is that a few months ago, a man named Jack (Yakov) Teitel was arrested and charged with attempted murder in this case, as well as for numerous other alleged attacks against a wide range of Jews and Arabs.
The bad news is that it is not clear that justice will truly be done in this case. The courts are dragging their feet and there is some concern that Teitel may be allowed to sidestep the justice process by being declared mentally unfit to stand trial, even though many observers of the case believe he was more than mentally fit enough to perpetrate these crimes.
Therefore, the Ortiz family would be grateful if some of you would write letters to key Israeli officials and Israeli media outlets. They have written a sample letter. If this is helpful, you can either simply copy and paste, or use it as a guideline.
SAMPLE LETTER
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To Whom It may Concern,
We, as supporters of Israel who love your nation and pray for you, have been closely following the case of Ami Ortiz and his family for two and a half years, and for the past year that of the alleged perpetrator who has confessed to the attempted murder, Yakov Teitel.
The fact that Teitel is being considered to be possibly not mentally competent to stand trial is very disturbing to us. For 12 years Teitel was active, working out his attacks to the last detail , built complicated bombs and stored a hidden cache of illegal weapons, covered his tracks and outwitted the police and the Shin Bet for more than a decade, learned how to lie on the polygraph test and succeeded when brought in for questioning after murdering two Palestinians, married and had four children, worked and even had a business to support his family, worked for Y’ad L’achim for five years,and now when he is finally arrested, he is possibly deemed unfit to stand trial? It is very suspicious and tragic to us.
We sincerely hope and pray that true justice is carried out in the case of Yakov Teitel. We pray that the judicial system of the State of Israel will rightly deal with the pre-meditated violent acts of this man, and he will be judged in a court of law with an appropriate sentence. This case is on the minds of thousands of Israel supporters around the world who are watching closely to see the results, and to be able to prove to those who desire to see the downfall of your nation that justice and law does prevail in Israel.
Sincerely,
Your Name
